pretty questionable…

let me start by saying i am a huge girl/chocolate fan… these guys have displayed what it means to be a skateboard company through the years… they have endured through many ups and downs while staying true to the core of skateboarding… all i have is respect for them…

but the way they released “pretty sweet” yesterday was not that sweet… i was under the impression that skate shops would have the video ready to sell… not exactly… the video was released on the internet for digital download… not girl/chocolate style, in my opinion… definitely not the OG way of releasing the video… not the way a “leader of the pack” company should set an example… this fed into the mainstream of internet videos a bit…

not only did they set a bad example, but they hurt skate shops around the country… having the video online takes away a ton of sales from skate shops… shops need every dollar they can get these days… skate shops also needed to pre-book these videos… the amount of hard copy/dvd sales is very uncertain now… these shops could end up suffering from this style of release… skate shops are a big part of helping distribute and promote companies like girl/chocolate… i feel like they bit the hand that finds their food for them…

i mean, look at what Real did… they sent out “Since Day One” to shops across the country… they were told to hold onto the video until the release date… then they had first crack at selling it… they then released the video online… this method is sound… all parties are helped and involved… it’s a collaborative effort…

most of everything else for the video was done well… having a premier, making it a team/crew video, striving for high quality, etc. is the right way to do it… girl/chocolate is still one of my favorites…

this is proof that the industry can’t ignore the money that’s floating out there on the internet… even though skate shops have been through many of the same industry woes as girl/chocolate, they have been brushed aside again…

keep your chins’ up, skate shops… much love…

peace and noLove…

oh yea… i haven’t seen it yet…
