bank control…

i recently realized how myself and many others are under control by banks… it took a minor shift in my financial routine to realize this… i always took my method of living my life with a bank for granted… i really enjoyed spending all my money on my credit card, and then paying it off in full at the end of every pay period… i would build up reward points on my credit card without much effort or stress…

this routine was established when i noticed i was being charged $6.99 for “check card activity” fees… these were applied when i would use my check card too often… well, fuck you “place where i confide in to hold onto my money” i thought… i will no longer use my money on my check card… i will use my credit card and pay it off as a debit card (not a flawless plan also because paying your card off in full every month doesn’t “build” credit… i need a sane person to explain this garbage philosophy to me…”

my routine worked for about 5 years… then the economy collapsed and banks were scurrying around for bandages for their self-inflicted wounds… i didn’t give two shits about their issues as long as i still had my money in the bank… over time, i realized some new fees on my bank account… these ones were called “account maintenance” fees… this is a new term for me, so i call up the bank and inquire… i find out that the terms on my bank account have changed (i am sure i received an email about the changes, but, seriously, i never read that shit)…

i learned that now i must use my check card at least 10 times a month to avoid “account maintenance” fees… i realized then that i couldn’t use my credit card as much anymore… i am now paranoid that i won’t use my check card 10 times every month now… i use it all the damn time… and it blows…

i began to realize that the government made the banks change their terms of condition on some bank accounts to force people to use the money they have (cash) instead of charging everything to a credit card… as much as i am a fan of people spending money that they HAVE, i was pissed that my financial routine and the way i spend my money is not in my control…

land of the free? home of the $lave…
