kicked out…

a Saturday ago, we had a skate day that was eventful in an I eventful sort of way… we went to a few spots that we wanted to skate… upon showing up to these spots, we were either kicked out or not able to skate them (snow or barricades of sorts)… it was the first time in a long time that we came up empty handed… our crew is pretty creative and talented, so a day like that is quite rare…

our day started off with a kicked out situation… the spot is asking for a session… we warmed up at the spot and didn’t think twice about getting bothered… we started filming and within about 4 attempts at the line Mike was trying, we had a property manager stop us in out tracks…

the way he stopped us wasn’t deliberate… he waited for us to skate up to the obstacle Mike was skating and got in our way… from there, the banter began… we conversed with him for a bit… he had an interesting way of kicking us out… it wasn’t like, “hey guys, you can’t skate here.” it was a series of questions like, ” do you guys want to leave?”, “do i do this at your house?”, and “do you want me to call the police?”…

we had the opportunity to be bastards to him… instead, we tried being civil and reasoning with him… a complete failure, thanks to his ignorance… it really got me pissed off… we left without any arguing, but there was a huge lack of respect from this old guy…

i have reflected on the situation and understood why he was acting the way he was… when he approached us, he was intimidated and scared… instead of treating us like people, he tried to belittle us… not analyzing the situation and going into it with a bad attitude made him hostile… it’s too bad that people assume the worst sometimes with skateboarders…

i’m writing this piece for a couple reasons… one is for the people who kick us out… treat others as you want to be treated… it’ll really help. the other purpose is for skateboarders… if you are getting the boot, be respectful… treat others as you would want to be treated as well… no one is better than anyone else…

peace and noLove…

Guys.. I love the freedom that comes from tearing it up and mastering new obstacles you discover along the your way. But, even though you showed some restraint, you left without him understand you, or you understand him… No he wasn’t afraid of you guys… he was afraid of his liability (his responsibility) for you.
Believe it or not… owners get sued by parents of nice kids like yourself all the time. Guys like Mike who took on an obstacle beyond his ability and ended up injuring himself. Courts have even fined owners who had “keep out signs” or “beware signs,”, because it proved they knew a problem existed, so, it became their responsibility. Now I know your saying, “no way… that’s crazy…” And your right it is, but it happens all the time… So yeah… the old guy was afraid.. but not “of you..” but “for you..”
