supporting the different…

on my journey back to Denver from my third wedding of the year (all within the family), i had some thoughts on marriage… i have also had my beliefs questioned and challenged during my time away from Denver…

the question i was asked was, “why do you support marriage and weddings when you don’t believe in them?”… a great question… i didn’t have to think about it when i responded… i support the decisions made by the people that are close to me… we are all different people and have different morals, values, and beliefs… we come from different places and have experienced different things… we are shaped by our experiences and perspective within the experiences… i understand why people get married, but i don’t believe in it… there is a huge difference…

the other conversation i had about marriage is one i have been having more frequently… people assume that getting married is “happening” in all serious relationships… so when i tell them i am not getting married they get thrown off… not sure how to handle the statement I made, they respond with, “you’ll get married”… they comfort themselves with the notion that it’ll happen no matter what…

why do we force ourselves to get married? why is it uncomfortable to just be with someone and use your personal morals and values to be loyal and care for them?

marriage has its place… But it’s not for everyone… it’s not forever… it’s not all encompassing… it’s not perfect…

i will always support my friends and family in most everything they do… that doesn’t mean that i will do the same or see it the same way… we are all different people… allow yourself to be who you are and think the way you want to… being different doesn’t make you weird… don’t follow… lead.

peace and noLove…
