keep it clean for respect…

you gotta love some of the tangents that occur in conversations… my mother and i started a conversation about throwing away gum instead of tossing it on the ground… it turned into a rant about littering… then, obviously, i turned it into something about skateboarding…

my mom doesn’t like it when people throw their gum on the ground… neither do i but i don’t get pissed when i step in some… we then started talking about littering and our views on it… i was telling my mom that we, as a society, make garbage… no matter where it gets discarded, it usually ends up in the earth (landfills, dumps, etc.)… she understood what i said but replied wisely, “if everyone littered, think about what the world would look like!” ok, Mom… it would look pretty nasty… that was when I started thinking about the littering that happens in our Colorado skate parks…

the noLove camp has some pretty funny sayings about the littering that goes on at the skate parks… my personal favorite is, “let’s have a picnic at the park and throw our trash in the bowl!” classic… that’s what it looks like at some of the parks we skate at… there is a lack of respect and appreciation at some parks…

it’s amazing to think about how far skateboarders and skateboarding has come… back in the day, a skate park was like an oasis in a desert… it took a lot of work (dealing with cities and towns ordinances, raising money, building the park, etc.) to create these parks… these kids and young adults need to take care of their home turf… seeing garbage, dried-up spilled drinks, gum, etc. in the park is unacceptable! we need to set a better example, obviously…

noLove has many events and bbq’s at different skate parks around Colorado… we usually make it a team effort to clean up after ourselves… maybe it’s time to start leaving our crap everywhere to see what the kids do/think (prolly wouldn’t care)… we need to appreciate not just the parks themselves, but the history of skateboarding… next time you wanna dump your trash in the park, think about the hard work put into making a place for you to skate… think about all the progress we have made in the skateboarding community…

we’ve come a long way. respect that!

peace and noLove…

Right on man! I hope some younger heads read this post, I was a kid once too and it’s fun to do bad things, but littering at YOUR local park where YOU skate EVERYDAY is mind blowing sometimes. I know it is not all the skaters and that part is unavoidable, but yeah, put your shit in a trash can.
