back to the point…

looking a few posts back, it seems that skateboarding has not been a subject… well, it’s here…

i’ve been thinking about how my skateboarding has changed a lot over the last 7 years… Back in the day it was always ledges, manuals, stairs, and rails… i assumed that as i got older my skateboarding would become more and more limited… well, thanks to the friends, skateparks, and street spots in Colorado, my tunnel vision in skateboarding has been squashed!

age tends to wear us down… not just the reality of it, but also the mental side of it… “I’m almost 30… I’m getting old…” i have touched on this topic before, but it constantly pops in my head… i do not let it phase me anymore… instead of treating it as a negative, i see it as skateboarding wisdom… the longer you do something, the better you are at it… i will concede the fact that my peak physical ability is gone, (that means the ability to jump down shit, over and over) but i think i understand skateboarding better… i am a conscious skateboarder now… i don’t just do tricks, but i actually think about them… i think about all the little things that go into every trick (i.e. momentum, foot placement, weight, flicking, etc.)… i never thought of those things as a shitty kid…

with this new cognitive/conscious type of skateboarding and the help of my friends and new spots, my skateboarding has moved into a new realm… i was convinced specific tricks would never be landed or even tried! going to different skateparks (thank you Colorado) and uncovering obscure street spots has expanded my mind… also seeing my friends stomp tricks i cannot do has inspired me to tap into a new realm of shredding…

it is amazing to think that the motivation for different types of skateboarding is external… creativity inevitably comes from within yourself… it is cool that a slab of concrete or piece of metal can expand your skateboarding repertoire… being inspired by someone else’s creativity is also an amazing thing to realize…

this energy we create is all circular… perpetuate it, yo…

peace and noLove
