x-ing out xmas…

with the astoundingly popular holiday approaching, i wanted to write a little rant about my newest least favorite holiday… the one good thing that comes from xmas is that i get to see my friends and family in chicago… the rest of the holiday is pretty much “meh” to me…

you never quite understand why you celebrate this holiday when you are a child… you just get super hyped on the presents you get… no one fully explains to you the reason for the celebration… i am not going to go into the details about what xmas is because it is a waste of time and energy… its purpose has been diluted and warped over time…

i find it to be annoying that people assume that everyone celebrates this holiday… why do we do that? why is it such a mainstream holiday? why has religion warped the non-religious? i understand that getting gifts and doing good for one another is important… trust me, i am the first to get involved in that fun stuff… but where i have an issue with xmas is that we dedicate one day to giving and doing good… we should be doing good and giving as much as we can! this holiday just bugs me…

i am not trying to be an Ebeneezer Scrooge about it… what i am saying is that all this joy and excitement should be celebrated everyday you wake up! not just around xmas time… our lives’ are short and need to be celebrated on the daily…

noLove is full of presents and surprises… everyday…

party.

This is exactly why, as an adult, I’ve come to appreciate Thanksgiving more and more. The idea of being thankful for the things you have is something that I think resonates with everyone, and it’s fun to get together with family and friends without having the burden of gift exchanges or worrying about whether or not they even celebrate the holiday.

I think I’d enjoy Xmas better if it weren’t so much about presents… I won’t say I don’t like getting presents, and I like giving them too, but maybe it’d be better if we all just gave our family / friends a single present each. People are hurting too bad for money to do much more anyway.
